A new headspace centre has opened in Taree, providing young people with the support they need for their mental health and wellbeing.

headspace Taree was officially launched by the Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, Emma McBride today, after the doors opened earlier this year.

Led by the Samaritans, headspace Taree offers free and low-cost support for young people aged 12-25 for mental health, related physical health, alcohol and other drugs, and social and vocational support.

Located on Biripi Country, it also offers safe and culturally appropriate support for young First Nations people.

headspace Taree is one of 153 headspace services operating nationally, with 83 located in regional communities.

There is a growing need for mental health support services across Australia, particularly for young Australians. That’s why the Albanese Government is investing more than $152 million in headspace service delivery for 2022-23.

For young people unable to attend a headspace service, eheadspace provides free telephone (1800 650 890) and web-based (www.headspace.org.au) support services.

Quotes attributable to Assistant Minister Emma McBride:

“The Albanese Government is determined to improve mental health support services for all Australians, wherever they live.

“Early intervention is critical for the mental health and wellbeing of young Australians.

“That’s why I’m proud to support the opening of headspace Taree, so young people in this community can get the care and support they need when they need it.”
