Mum: Hey, come and take a look at this. Noah’s ear looks infected. I think he needs to see a doctor.
Dad: Let me take a look... Yeah, I think we should take him to one.
Mum: But the medical centre isn’t open on Sundays. Should we take him to the hospital emergency room?
Dad: Hmm, it’s not really an emergency. I drove past a new Medicare Urgent Care Clinic the other day. Maybe they can help. Let me look it up.
Mum: Okay.
Dad: Found it! It’s just a 10-minute drive from here, open seven days a week with extended hours.
Mum: Can Noah see a doctor there?
Dad: According to this, Medicare Urgent Care Clinics are staffed by highly trained medical professionals, and provide culturally safe, equitable and accessible care to everyone.
They provide care for illnesses and injuries such as:
- minor infections
- minor eye and ear problems
- minor fractures, sprains, and sports injuries
- sexually transmitted infections
- minor cuts, insect bites and rashes
- breathing illness
- stomach problems, and
- mild burns.
Mum: Sounds perfect! Oh wait, do we need an appointment?
Dad: No, it says walk-ins are welcome. We just need his Medicare card, and it’s free!
Mum: Great! Let’s go.
