The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, or PBS, provides Australians with access to more than 900 subsidised prescription medicines for a range of health conditions.
When you buy a medicine listed on the PBS, you pay an amount called the PBS patient co-payment.
The maximum co-payment for a PBS medicine is $25, down from $31.60.
Some PBS medicines will cost less than this.
These changes apply to all people with a Medicare card and help you save money every time you fill a prescription.
For Commonwealth concession cardholders, the PBS patient co-payment is capped at $7.70 until 2030 so you know what medicines will cost in the coming years.
If you have a chronic, stable and ongoing health condition, you may also be eligible for 60-day prescriptions, getting you twice the medication on a single prescription.
These are just some of the ways the PBS supports more people to access cheaper medicines.
