It’s important to look after your health and the health of your mob. And taking your medicines is an important part of that.
Under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme – or PBS – the government pays part of the cost of many prescription medicines, making them cheaper for you to use.
However, if you identify as aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander you may be eligible for the Closing the Gap PBS Co-payment Program. This program can make some medicines even cheaper for you.
Your doctor or health worker can tell you if you qualify, and register you for the program.
You’re eligible for the Closing the Gap PBS Co-payment Program if: you self-identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, have a Medicare card, your doctor or health worker believes your health will suffer if you don’t take your medicine, you’re unlikely to take your medicine if it’s full price.
If you are eligible for the Closing the Gap PBS Co-payment Program most medicines listed on the PBS will only cost you a few dollars. And if you already have a concession card, some of your medicines will be free.
Have a yarn with your doctor or health worker or visit health.gov.au/pbs and start saving on your medicines today.
