My name's Janelle. I'm an optometrist here at the Australian College of Optometry in Melbourne. I've worked as an optometrist for over 15 years. It's difficult managing chronic conditions and anything that we can do to make things easier for patients is so important. The introduction of 60-day prescriptions has the potential to make a big difference to patients. There's now almost 300 different medications listed on the PBS that are eligible for 60-day prescribing, and these cover a broad range of chronic conditions. So being able to access a 60-day supply of their medication rather than only a 30-day supply is so important, especially with the current cost of living crisis. For some patients, that monthly visit to a pharmacy can be really difficult to fit in their day-to-day life, so only having to make that trip every two months rather than monthly can make a big difference to some people. 60-day prescriptions are only available for a certain group of chronic conditions. Additionally, your prescriber will have to look at your particular situation and determine if your condition is stable and if this is a suitable medication for you.
