Medicare Benefits Schedule continuous review to improve patient care

Medicare items and services will be reviewed by experts on an ongoing basis to ensure the Medicare Schedule remains contemporary and provides universal access to the best technologies and services under new arrangements introduced by the Australian Government.

The Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Review Committee was established in March 2021 to review electrocardiogram (ECG) items introduced on 1 August 2020, following recommendations from the MBS Review Taskforce.

From 1 April to 30 September 2022, a new temporary Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item is available as a nuclear medicine imaging diagnostic service.
