About the strategy
The Aged Care Workforce Taskforce released A matter of care – Australia’s aged care workforce strategy in September 2018. This strategy sets out 14 actions for industry to:
- grow and sustain the workforce
- ensure the workforce can provide services that meet the care needs of our elderly
- meet current and future care needs.
Implementation
The Australian Government supports the industry-led implementation of the strategy, including support for the Aged Care Workforce Industry Council:
- $2.6 million in Budget 2019–20 to establish the Aged Care Workforce Industry Council and start implementing the strategy.
- $10.3 million in Budget 2020–21 to support the Workforce Industry Council reforms.
Aged Care Workforce Industry Council
The Aged Care Workforce Industry Council oversees, sequences and monitors the implementation of the Aged Care Workforce Strategy. The council works with industry and government to implement the 14 strategic actions and recommendations in the strategy.
The council consists of aged care providers, workforce organisations and consumer organisations.
The council meets monthly. They invite key stakeholders from government, industry and education to participate in these meetings to contribute to, or better understand, progress the council is making in delivering outcomes.
We work closely with the council and are responsible for delivering several of the strategic actions.
