Closing the Gap PBS Co-payment Program
If you’re Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander you may be eligible for the Closing the Gap PBS Co-payment Program.
You are eligible if:
-
you self-identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australian
-
your GP believes you would have setbacks in preventing or managing a medical condition if you don’t take the medicine
-
you are unlikely to take your medicine if it's full price
-
and you have enrolled with Medicare.
If you would normally pay full price, you can get your PBS medicines at the concession price of $7.30. If you already have a concession card, you can get them for free. Additional premiums may apply.
Have a yarn with your healthcare worker to see if you’re eligible.
If you spend more than $262.80 on eligible PBS medicines in a calendar year, you qualify for the PBS Safety Net.
This means your PBS medicines for the rest of the year will be free (plus any applicable premiums).
Closing the Gap recipients pay concessional medicine rates, but their medicines count at general patient price to help reach the Safety Net Threshold sooner.
Keep a record of your PBS co-payments and apply for a PBS Safety Net card through your local pharmacy or Services Australia.
