Seven years ago, Pamela Clark began the career she'd always wanted. The Adelaide local giving up her warehouse job to become a support worker. I’ve been with them ever since so yeah it's really been consistent. Whether it's cooking, cleaning or going into town for a coffee, Pam thrives on being able to help her clients through their day. Hearing about what they need help with and just hearing a bit about their life and you know it's a privilege really. Pam isn't slowing down but with an aging population there's only so much work she can take on. There are more opportunities out there than I can say yes to that's why we need more people. To grow the workforce, Apprenticeship Careers Australia has partnered with the Australian Government to deliver the Home Care Workforce Support Program in South Australia and the Northern Territory. Those with a passion for caring are invited to complete a free three-week course which goes toward an accredited qualification while getting hands on experience supporting older people who wish to continue to live independently in their own homes. Home is the best place so certainly important for them to stay in their familiar surroundings for as long as you know physically possible. While Pam continues to see her regular clients, she hopes others will experience the same joy she does as a support worker. I just enjoy it so it's easy to get up in the morning and I'm happy to go to work.
