For too long aged care in this country has been a very cookie cutter approach both in the home and in residential care. We want to turn this system on its head and that means designing it around the needs of the people who use it, older people and indeed their families. The reforms that the government is implementing are really unprecedented in their scope and their scale and of course, their cost. Take up the opportunities that are being offered, put your views, get engaged in discussion, and even argument. To be really responsive to the diversity of older Australians we need all older Australians to be involved in redesigning what the system would look like.
Aged Care Council of Elders member Ian Yates AM invites older Australians to get involved with shaping and re-designing the aged care system.
