The cervical screening test detects HPV (human papillomavirus), which can cause cervical cancer. This brochure explains what it means if your test results say:

  • return to screen in 5 years
  • repeat the HPV test in 12 months
  • refer to a specialist
  • unsatisfactory test result

If you’re referred to a specialist, this brochure has information on colposcopy, biopsy and treatment.

This brochure includes some frequently asked questions about HPV and the HPV vaccine. It also provides contact information for any questions or to ask for information in another language.
