Strengthening Medicare measures

We are putting practical measures in place to address challenges in our healthcare system and build a stronger Medicare for future generations. These measures aim to improve primary care for all Australians with a focus on 4 priority areas.

Building a stronger Medicare for future generations

The Australian Government is committed to improving primary health care for all Australians. Find out how we are strengthening Medicare with our package of new initiatives.

MyMedicare

MyMedicare is a new voluntary patient registration model. It aims to formalise the relationship between patients, their general practice, general practitioner and primary care teams. Find out who is eligible and how you can register.

Increases to bulk billing incentive payments

We are increasing Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) bulk billing incentive payments for Commonwealth concession card holders and children under 16 years of age for a range of MBS consultation items.

Medicare Urgent Care Clinics

Medicare Urgent Care Clinics (Medicare UCCs) provide bulk billed care for patients with urgent, but not life-threatening, conditions. They’re open early and late, every day of the year and are helping to reduce pressure on our hospitals and emergency departments.

Unleashing the Potential of our Health Workforce – Scope of Practice Review

The Scope of Practice Review was an independent review led by Professor Mark Cormack. It examined the barriers and opportunities health practitioners face working to their full scope of practice in primary care.
