After applying for the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) Program

Find out about changing your Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) application, potential outcomes for your application and how to get a Medicare provider number.

Changing your application

You should only submit your application to your preferred college once you are sure it is complete.

However, both colleges allow you to change your preferences for a few weeks after applications close.

For more information, see:

Outcome

If successful, your college will offer you a placement in writing.

You then have a week to accept or decline the offer.

Your college will explain your next steps.

Applying for a placement and Medicare provider number

Before you start your training, you need a Medicare provider number to claim Medicare Benefits Schedule items. You also need an approved training placement.

Your college will send you a placement form, which will include details on how to apply for your Medicare provider number.

You need to complete the form and return it to your college as soon as possible.
