New My Aged Care website and enhanced service finder project
The Australian Government committed to deliver a new My Aged Care website with enhanced service finder functionality in the 2018–19 budget, aiming to:
enhance the consumer’s experience of using the website
improve access to aged care services
make it easier for consumers to find and compare aged care services in their preferred location.
This work is well underway and we will soon be providing details about what will change and what you will need to do to keep your information up to date. We will also give updates on publishing home care pricing information using a new pricing schedule.
The department is also actively addressing the issue of duplicate and incorrect service results appearing in the service finders. New requirements have been developed and are being enforced for service providers to manage and update their information. Reminder: Consultation on streamlined consumer assessment for aged care closing soon
Consultation on the Streamlined Consumer Assessment for Aged Care Discussion Paper closes on Monday, 11 February 2019.
We are seeking feedback from stakeholders to inform the finalisation of the streamlined consumer assessment model for aged care, including:
streamlining entry processes through My Aged Care
ensuring the quality of assessment services
ensuring assessment better supports senior Australians to remain independent in their homes
Streamlined assessment will start from 1 July 2020.
Reminder: Have your say on the Homelessness Action Plan
The Diversity Sub-group of the Aged Care Sector Committee has started work on an action plan under the Aged Care Diversity Framework to help the aged care sector support older people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.
The Sub–group is supported in this work by a reference group convened by the Housing for the Aged Action Group (HAAG).
HAAG has developed two online surveys to inform the action plan:
Provider Survey — for professionals, providers and services who work with older people, even those that do not specialise in providing services to people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness
Consumer Survey — for older people, their friends, families and carers who have tried to get, or received, aged care services while living:
in rented, temporary, unsuitable, unsafe or overcrowded accommodation
with friends or family because no other option is available
in a car or on the streets.

Online continence pocket guide for the aged care workforce
The Continence Foundation of Australia has developed a free online tool for those providing bladder and bowel support. Continence Support Now is a website that can be easily accessed on smart phones, tablets, laptop or desktop computers. It covers helpful information on skin care, products, equipment, catheters, bladder, bowel, diet, exercise, nutrition, mobility, toileting and care plans.
Continence Support Now content was written and reviewed by experienced continence nurses from the aged care and disability sectors. Users are able to ‘suggest a topic’, ensuring further relevant and up to date information can be added.
This initiative is funded by the Australian Government under the National Continence Program.
Recognising the need for end of life directions for aged care
End of Life Directions for Aged Care (ELDAC) is funded by the Australian Government to support health professionals and aged care staff to provide end of life care to senior Australians in residential aged care and the community.
