The Cultural and Indigenous Research Centre Australia (CIRCA) has published an independent review of the Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) program between 2015 and 2018. The report shows that the program is helping reduce tobacco use among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Locally based TIS teams have run educational activities across Australia using ‘local faces for local places’. For example, Flinders Island Elder Aunty Girlie features in the Smoking Is Not Our Culture campaign. It has had a significant impact on the local community.
