In line with earlier advice on minimising the potential risk of workers unintentionally transmitting COVID-19 by working across multiple sites, the Guiding Principles for residential aged care – keeping NSW residents and workers safe have been updated for residential aged care providers and workers in the Northern Beaches Local Government Area. These Principles outline the actions providers and their workers should take to implement a single site working arrangement as soon as practicable. This will remain in place until the Australian Government advises the Northern Beaches is no longer a hotspot, in light of case numbers and local circumstances.
In addition to the Principles, a Support Hub has been established with extra resources for providers and workers such as template letters and a suggested Workplace Management Policy. Frequently Asked Questions have also been updated. Providers can also contact the Support Hub directly on 1800 491 793 for advice, including over the Christmas period.
Providers can seek reimbursement of their out of pocket costs associated with supporting a single site working arrangement, including staffing costs, training and paid pandemic leave. Details of the Australian Government’s grant can be found in Version 5 of the Grant Opportunity Guidelines.
The Australian Government recognises the impact these arrangements have on workers and their families. For workers affected by single site arrangements, Converge International will deliver up to five free counselling sessions per person. Services include employee and manager support, career guidance, financial counselling and family support. Phone 1300 687 327 or visit www.convergeinternational.com.au to book an appointment.
