The Australian Government will invest $52 million to protect Australian teenagers, aged 14-19, against meningococcal through the launch of a free national vaccination program.

Over 1 million teenagers will receive the free meningococcal A, C W and Y vaccine over the next four years under a school based program.

Last year there were 382 cases of the infection across Australia with 28 deaths – more than double the reported cases and fatalities of 2015.

From April 2019, the vaccine will be available through the National Immunisation Program.
