The Albanese Government is proud to support the 2026 Australian Transplant Games, which will be held in Launceston in September.
The Games bring together athletes with organ transplants, donor family members and living donors from across Australia, celebrating the life-changing impact of organ and tissue donation and transplantation. It is also an opportunity to highlight the life-saving benefits of organ and tissue donation and spark important conversations.
Athletes compete in more than 20 sports, showcasing the strength, resilience and determination of transplant recipients and the generosity of Australians who say ‘yes’ to donation.
Powerful stories of survival and second chances arise from the Australian Transplant Games. Like that of athlete Ken Fletcher, a retired police officer and Launceston resident. Ken received two lung transplants and is enjoying an active retirement filled with sport, travel and time with his family.
Tasmania leads the nation when it comes to organ and tissue donation. Half of Tasmania’s eligible population, are registered on the Australian Organ Donor Register, compared to 36 per cent nationally. This strong community support is reflected in actual hospital donation rates, with more than 70 per cent of Tasmanian families saying yes to donation, compared to the national rate of 53 per cent.
The Albanese Government thanks the Tasmanian Government for their support in bringing this national event to Tasmania.
Tasmanians are encouraged to get behind the Games. Find more information at
