17. The parent organism is cultivated sugarcane, Saccharum spp. which is an interspecific hybrid of S. spontaneum and S. officinarum. Sugarcane is exotic to Australia and is commercially cultivated on the east coast of Australia from northern New South Wales to far north Qld. The applicant proposes to use any sugarcane cultivar.
