Why is this important?

  • Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and high quality of our food products. However, the food industry is dynamic and ever-changing and the time taken to process applications for changes to food standards can stand in the way of innovation. Modernising FSANZ’s business processes will fast-track the food standard-setting process, while maintaining the input of consumers, industry and science professionals in upholding the safety and quality issues.

Who will benefit?

  • The proposal will benefit both consumers and the food industry by reducing the time taken to bring new products to the market, providing greater incentive for innovation and increasing the international competitiveness of the food industry.

What funding is the Government committing to the initiative?

  • The Government is providing new funding of $2.9 million over two years.

What have we done in the past?

  • FSANZ has always focussed on improving the efficiency of the food standards system. This funding will provide greater capacity and enable the development of new initiatives.

When will the initiative conclude?

  • Funding will conclude in 2007-08.
