Initiatives and programs

We're working on a range of policy initiatives, programs and campaigns to help improve your health and the health of all Australians.

  • The Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) program aims to improve life expectancy among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by reducing tobacco use. Local organisations run activities designed to reduce smoking rates. Resources and tools are available to support these activities.

  • Men’s sheds are community-based, non-commercial organisations that are open to all men. Men’s sheds improve the health and wellbeing of their members by giving them a safe place to make friends, share meaningful activities, talk, and access health information and resources.

  • The NSDP makes sure that all men’s sheds in Australia have access to a wide range of resources and support for their particular shed.

  • The Australian Government will ensure that all men’s sheds in Australia have access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

  • Regional coordinators provide support to men’s sheds in each state and territory in Australia to support men’s access to health information and resources to improve their wellbeing.

  • The invitation to free breast screening now covers women up to 74.
