Initiatives and programs
We're working on a range of policy initiatives, programs and campaigns to help improve your health and the health of all Australians.
DoctorConnect provides information to international medical graduates and their employers. It aims to help international medical graduates understand the steps required to work as a doctor in Australia, where they can work and restrictions on billing patients under Medicare.
The Multi-Purpose Services Program combines funding for aged care services from the Australian Government with state and territory health services. This joint initiative means small regional and remote communities can offer flexible aged care services that meet the needs of their community.
The National Rural Generalist Pathway recognises the extra requirements and skills of rural generalists and supports them to meet the diverse health needs of regional, rural and remote Australians. Rural generalists give these communities access to a broader range of specialist medical services.
Under this program employers who are sponsoring a visa for an International Medical Graduate (IMG) must apply for a Health Workforce Certificate. Hospital employers who are sponsoring a temporary or provisional visa for an IMG must apply for a Health Workforce Exemption Certificate.
