In my work, I've seen how serious and devastating for families, influenza in babies and young children can be.

The influenza vaccine protects babies and young children from serious illness and hospitalisation.

Pregnant women have a higher risk of complications if they develop influenza.

Their pregnancy can be affected, resulting in premature delivery or stillbirth.

The influenza vaccine is highly safe and effective in pregnancy, and also protects their babies in the first six months of life when they're most vulnerable.

You can be vaccinated at any stage of pregnancy, and it's recommended in every pregnancy.

So the good news is that the influenza vaccine is free for pregnant women and children aged six months to less than five years under the National Immunisation Program.
