Initiatives for aged care nurses

Nurses play an integral role in providing high quality care for senior Australians. We are supporting and boosting the skills of aged care nurses.

Aged Care Registered Nurses’ Payment

The Aged Care Registered Nurses’ Payment rewards clinical skills and leadership. Registered nurses working for the same aged care provider over the eligibility periods can receive the payment.

Aged Care Transition to Practice Program

The Aged Care Transition to Practice Program supports new aged care nurses with training and professional development opportunities.

Participants receive specialist training in aged care nursing and mentorship from senior nurses.

Aged Care Nursing and Allied Health Dementia Care Scholarships

The Aged Care Nursing Scholarship Program is expanding. 1,500 new scholarships will be available over three years to nurses (registered and enrolled), personal care workers and allied health professionals. This includes a guaranteed minimum of 20 scholarships per year for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Students will be eligible if they are studying the following:

  • Graduate Certificate
  • Graduate Diploma
  • Masters.

The course needs to be relevant to the care of older people, or leadership and management.
