Ministerial Advisory Committee on Out of Pocket Costs

This committee looked at all aspects of private health insurance and provided advice to the Australian Government on reforms.

Role

The government set up this committee on 2 January 2018 to provide advice on:

  • best practice models for more transparent in-hospital out of pocket medical costs and related medical services
  • any legislative or regulatory barriers to doing this
  • how to implement best practice models
  • other issues as directed by the Minister.

Report

In late 2018, the committee provided their report to the Minister for Health. The committee held their last meeting on 19 October 2018.

On 2 March 2019, the Minister announced that the government is acting on all of the report’s recommendations.
