Mersey Community Hospital

This section of the site provides access to information about the Mersey Community Hospital.

The Commonwealth assumed ownership of the Mersey Community Hospital from the Tasmanian Government on 23 November 2007.

The Mersey Hospital is located near Devonport, Tasmania. It is approximately a 100 bed hospital that provides services including: ambulatory and emergency, general adult medicine, general paediatric medicine, general surgery including orthopaedic, ear, nose and throat, ophthalmological, certain oncology services, limited rehabilitation services and allied health support.

The hospital works co-operatively with other health services in its surrounding region and state, including public and private hospitals.

Following Minister Roxon’s Media Release on 6 June 2008, the Commonwealth will continue negotiations with the Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services to operate the Mersey Community Hospital.

The Minister invited staff at the hospital to offer suggestions and comment around issues to be considered in the contractual arrangement for the management of the hospital.

As well as providing feedback directly at the hospital, staff can also use the email address mersey@health.gov.au to provide input on matters related to the Mersey Community Hospital.

As progress is made in reaching agreement in relation to the future governance structure of the hospital, details will be placed on this web page.
