National Health Reform Briefings – Questions taken on notice – Bunbury
The Aged Care Information Services phone number was changed last week and there is currently no phone line for providers to call for resources and information on aged care services. What are the interim or transition arrangements until a new single point of contact is established?
A single national information line was introduced on 1 July 2011 to make it easier for older Australians, their families, and carers to access information about aged care. The 1800 200 422 number, along with improvements being made to the Aged Care Australia website, www.agedcareaustralia.gov.au, were the first steps in the implementation of a new ‘front end’ for aged care.
An interim phone number has been implemented to assist approved providers with queries about fees and charges.
A mail out was sent to all providers to inform them of the new number (1800 900 554).
Over time it is expected that aged care numbers will be consolidated to provide a clear starting point for those after assistance.
