Independent review of the National Health Performance Authority
The National Health Reform Act 2011 requires an independent review of the National Health Performance Authority (the Performance Authority) to commence by 21 October 2012. The review will focus on the Authority’s operation and effectiveness in its early operation and establishment phase. In support of this aspect of the review, the Department of Health and Ageing is seeking written submissions from members of the public and healthcare professionals.

Public consultation on draft regulations for internet point of sale tobacco advertising
In April 2010, the Australian Government announced that it would be introducing legislation to restrict Australian internet advertising of tobacco products. The Tobacco Advertising Prohibition Amendment Act 2012 received Royal Assent on 6 March 2012, and will commence on 6 September 2012. Regulations will be made on internet point of sale advertising. The Government is seeking comments on draft regulation.

Public consultation on plain packaging of non-cigarette tobacco products
In April 2010 the Australian Government announced that, in a world first, all tobacco products sold in Australia would be required to be sold in plain packaging by 1 July 2012. Following Government amendments, the Tobacco Plain Packaging Act 2011 will require that all tobacco products sold in Australia are in plain packaging by 1 December 2012.

Consultation process for the development of the Regionally Tailored Primary Health Care Initiatives through Medicare Locals Funds
Stakeholders interested in the development of the "Regionally Tailored Primary Health Care Initiatives through Meidcare Locals Fund" are encouraged to contribute to the development of the Fund guidelines, with a particular focus on the objectives and priority funding areas. The consultation process commences on 9 December 2011 and closes on 13 January 2012

Have your say on elective surgery and emergency department targets
The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) has agreed to the establishment of an Expert Panel to review the mechanisms through which the elective surgery and emergency department targets and the elective surgery National Access Guarantee under the National Partnership Agreement on Improving Public Hospital Services (the NPA) are to be implemented and applied.
Interested parties and individuals are invited to provide written submissions that will help inform the Expert Panel’s first report back to COAG.
Update: Written submissions have been extended. They now close COB 10 June 2011.
