Hepatitis C Information
The Ministerial Advisory Committee on AIDS, Sexual Health and Hepatitis (MACASHH) was established late 2003, in response to the 2002 Reviews of the National HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C Strategies, which identified the need for a restructure of the Government’s existing HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C advisory mechanisms.
The new advisory structure consists of an overarching MACASHH and is supported by three expert subcommittees:
- the HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmissible Infections Subcommittee (HASTI)
- the Hepatitis C Subcommittee
- the Indigenous Australians’ Sexual Health Subcommittee (IASHC)
Under the chairmanship of the Hon Dr Michael Wooldridge, MACASHH and the three supporting subcommittees will be responsible for identifying emerging issues surrounding HIV/AIDS, hepatitis and sexual health and to recommends ways of strengthening Australia’s response to managing these public health concerns.
