RRMAs 6 and 7 cover remote areas of Australia. Data on these are shown in Figures 2.3.6 and 2.3.7. Although there have been some improvements in the availability of GPs in remote areas, the supply is significantly below the national average and the gap in recent years has not decreased. It should be noted that additional GP services to these areas are also provided through other service structures, including Aboriginal Medical Services and by the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and as such salaried work is not captured in the Medicare data.
