National Women's Health Policy
Chapter Three: Women's experience of health issues
This chapter covers the health issues identified as priorites for Australian women as identified in Chapter 2. Each of these priority areas is examined in terms of current evidence on the role of sex and gender, the health impacts across the lifespan, and the impact on women in marginalised groups. Statistics for morbidity (that is, the presence of disease or illness) and mortality (death) highlight the consequences of disadvantage. A recent study showed a 32 per cent higher rate of disease for the most disadvantaged population compared to the least disadvantaged.36
