'Beyond Bricks and Mortar - Building Quality Clinical Cancer Services' Symposium 2011

The ‘Beyond Bricks and Mortar – Building Quality Clinical Cancer Services’ Symposium 2011 was held on 10 and 11 August 2011 in Melbourne. With support from the Department of Health and Ageing, the Radiation Oncology Reform Implementation Committee’s (RORIC) Quality Working Group hosted the event.

The aim of the Symposium was to:

  • Showcase quality achievement in cancer care;
  • Share knowledge and experience in delivering safe quality radiation therapy within a multidisciplinary care model;
  • Highlight new and innovative service practices;
  • Explore issues of providing quality care when establishing new facilities, especially Regional Cancer Care Centres; and
  • Foster collaboration and build relationships and partnerships.
The Symposium also saw the launch of the Radiation Oncology Practices Standards and the supplementary guide, developed by the Tripartite Standards Working Group whose members are drawn from the Faculty of Radiation Oncology at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), the Australian Institute of Radiography (AIR) and the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM).
