Australia is an amazing and diverse country with locations and lifestyles to suit nearly everyone. It is impossible to provide a comprehensive list of locations that are Areas of Need (AON) or Districts of Workforce Shortage (DWS), particularly as these may change. As a general rule, it is true that there is a lot of overlap between the two and that a DWS is often also an AON.

The Department of Health and Ageing is working on a pilot website that lists AON and DWS vacancies around Australia. Should the pilot website be successful, the national implementation of the website will be highlighted here in DoctorConnect.

In the meantime, please check with your potential employer to check if a particular position is in an AON or DWS.
