Minister for Social Inclusion Mark Butler was in Adelaide today on the eve of Social Inclusion Week at an event held with aged care provider, ACH Group.
The Minister congratulated the ACH ‘Dementia Champions’ - dedicated staff who are passionate about caring for people with dementia and who were recognised at today’s event.
“Direct-care staff are passionate about helping people in their care lead full and active lives, making a huge difference to the lives of older Australians in their care,” Mr Butler said.
“I want to congratulate the Champions on their commitment to caring for people living with dementia, a disease that, without the right support, can be debilitating for sufferers and distressing for their families.”
The event also featured a ‘Hope and Inspiration Seminar’ led by Dr Jonathon Welch AM, founder of Social Inclusion Week.
“The seminar reminded participants that older Australians make very valuable contributions to society.”
“Social Inclusion Week encourages all of us to stop and think about those in our community that are disconnected or disadvantaged.”
“It’s also a great time to recognise and celebrate difference in our community, and the opportunities that diversity presents.”
Social Inclusion Week runs from 24 November until 2 December and is about connecting local communities, workmates, family and friends in order to build and strengthen relationships and networks.
The Week is a great opportunity to raise awareness about the needs of the most disadvantaged people in our community.
