Minister for Ageing Mark Butler today announced the five remaining members of the Aged Care Reform Implementation Council.

The independent Council will oversee delivery of the Labor Government’s $3.7 billion Living Longer Living Better aged care reform package, and will work closely with the aged care sector through the transition.

The new members of the Aged Care Reform Implementation Council are:

    • The Hon. Susan Ryan AO
    • Professor Ann Harding
    • Professor Henry Brodaty AO
    • Mr Jeff Lawrence
    • Mr Rauf Soulio.
The appointments follow the selection of Professor Peter Shergold as Chair of the Council, which was announced in June.

Minister for Ageing Mark Butler said the members were chosen because of their diverse expertise.

“The diverse knowledge and expertise from across the public and private sectors that this group brings with it will ensure we receive independent and frank advice that will help drive the reform agenda forward.”

“The Council will evaluate Living Longer Living Better reforms as they are delivered, and will report to me twice a year on progress,” Mr Butler said.

The Council will hold its inaugural meeting in Adelaide next month and terms of reference will be developed in consultation with the aged care sector.
Mr Butler said he looked forward to working with the Council to deliver a better aged care system for all Australians.

The appointment of the new members comes on the same day as the Government established the Aged Care Financing Authority (ACFA) to advise on pricing and financing issues across the aged care sector. The Chair of the ACFA, Ms Lynda O’Grady, will sit as an ex-officio member of the Reform Implementation Group to ensure cross-pollination between the two bodies.
