17 July 2012Seniors in Robertson will receive more support to stay in their homes thanks to a $994,350 boost to the Home and Community Care Program.
Minister for Ageing Mark Butler joined local Federal MP Deborah O’Neill at Coastlink in Woy Woy on Tuesday to announce the additional HACC funding.
“The very clear message I’m getting from seniors in my community is that they want more support to stay in their own homes, for as long as possible, if not for the rest of their lives,” Federal Member for Robertson, Ms O’Neill said.
“This funding of nearly $1 million means older people living in our community will be able to access a range of domestic assistance, personal care, social support and respite, to help them avoid a premature move into residential care.”
Mr Butler said the Gillard Government is continuing to make significant investments in the HACC program.
“In June, I announced that HACC services would be boosted by $35.6 million bringing the total planned HACC expenditure to nearly $672 million annually.
Coastlink is among eight organisations across the electorate of Robertson to receive funding.
Mr Butler also joined locals for a forum on the Living Longer Living Better aged care reform hosted by Deborah O’Neill MP at the Ettalong 50+ Leisure & Learning centre.
“When we visited the Central Coast region in August last year, locals told us they wanted to remain in their homes and live independently in the community for as long as possible,” Mr Butler said.
As part of the Living Longer Living Better Aged Care reforms, a further $880.1 million is being provided to increase the number of Home Care packages by nearly 40,000 to 100,000.
