Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing Catherine King today paid tribute to one of Australia’s treasured advocates for organ and tissue donation, David Gough.
David Gough died on Thursday 3 May 2012, leaving behind wife Robyn and son Tim.
“Many Australians will have met David Gough on his Organ Donor Awareness Rides in which he travelled around Australia flying the DonateLife flag to encourage Australians of the need to ask and know family member’s donation wishes. He was an inspiration, sharing his very personal family story about daughter Melody who in 2009 became an organ donor at age 26,” said Ms King.
“David Gough was an incredibly passionate supporter of organ and tissue donation and the lives that can be saved by the gift of donation. I have had the privilege to have met David on his awareness rides for DonateLife Week. His personal commitment to the case was infectious and inspired many Australians to think if not talk about their donation wishes with loved ones.
“David’s passing is a loss for us all. Most significantly, we send our sympathy to Robyn, Tim and family. David’s legacy is having reached out to so many Australians to have conversation that could one day save lives.”
