A further twelve Live Longer! Healthy Community Days have been funded across the country as part of the Australian Government’s national campaign to help extend the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Minister for Indigenous Health, Warren Snowdon said the events will take place in June and July in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, the Northern Territory and Western Australia in the following places: [see detail attached]

- NSW: Redfern, Wagga Wagga, Campbelltown (2 events)
- VIC: Morewell

- NT: Yarralin,Yuendumu
- WA: Carnarvon
“The Live Longer! Campaign promotes four key healthy lifestyle messages – give up smoking, eat healthy food, take regular exercise and attend regular medical check-ups – to help extend the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
“It is designed to encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people themselves to become more involved in their own health promotion – designing, developing and distributing health messages for their own communities,” he said.
Live Longer! Healthy Community Days are tailored according to the individual community's health priorities.
Twenty four Healthy Communities Days have already been held around the nation to encourage communities to get involved in physical activity, to eat and prepare nutritious meals, to learn about ways to stop smoking and to get a free health check.
Live Longer! involves a comprehensive program of tailored community campaigns with messages that respond in a meaningful, practical way to the concerns and health priorities of communities, as well as being relevant to local culture.
