Lismore residents can look forward to better access to doctors and nurses following the signing of a $7 million agreement to establish the Lismore GP Super Clinic in Goonellabah.

The operator of the new clinic, Lismore GP Super Clinic Pty Ltd, will absorb Meridian Health Care and expand into the surrounding tenancies at 33-35 Rous Road, Goonellabah.

“Lismore families will be able to see a doctor close to home at the Lismore GP Super Clinic,” Minister Roxon said.

“The Clinic plans to offer a range of services under the one roof by bringing together GPs, nurses, visiting medical specialists, allied health professionals and other healthcare providers and services.

“A dental service that will provide additional oral health services for the community and train final year dental students from the University of Queensland is also planned for the clinic.
“GP Super Clinics are just another example of the Gillard Government delivering services that matter to families.”

While the fit out of the new clinic is scheduled to be completed around mid-2012, services will continue to be provided at the existing premises with some new services such as additional GPs are planned to come online earlier.

The Gillard Government is investing $650 million to build more than 60 GP Super Clinics and invest in more than 400 infrastructure programs in GP clinics around the country. 33 GP Super Clinics are either open, delivering early services or under construction.
