The opening of the Bendigo GP Super Clinic is paving the way for better access to GPs, nurses and allied health professionals for the local Bendigo community.

Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon and local Federal Member for Bendigo Steve Gibbons have welcomed the opening of the new clinic at 123 Arnold Street

“The new Bendigo GP Super Clinic is part of the Gillard Government’s commitment to make it easier for families to see a doctor close to home,” Minister Roxon said.

“Patients will benefit from access to a range of services including GPs and nurses, as well as a preventive and continuing care services comprising diabetes education, practice nursing, renal and respiratory care, podiatry, dietetics, psychology and mental health support and paediatric diabetes clinics.

Local Federal Member for Bendigo Steve Gibbons said the GP Super Clinic is a collaboration between three local Bendigo organisations, Bendigo Health, Bendigo Community Health Service and Monash University’s Rural Clinical School, for the local community.

“Our local GP Super Clinic is going to look after our community now and into the future by working with the Monash University Rural Clinical School and the soon to be completed La Trobe University Clinical School to train the next generation of Bendigo GPs.

“The Bendigo GP Super Clinic will provide a Rapid Access clinic to provide same-day appointments for patients who are unable to obtain an appointment with their own medical practitioner and will provide bulk billing to health care card holders, pensioners and children under the age of 16.

The GP Super Clinic has extended operating hours that cover Monday to Thursday 8.15 am to 10.00 pm, Friday 8.15 am to 6.00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday 11.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Minister Roxon and Mr Gibbons will officially open the new Bendigo GP Super Clinic in the near future.

The Gillard Government is investing $650 million to build more than 60 GP Super Clinics and invest in more than 400 infrastructure programs in GP clinics around the country. 33 GP Super Clinics are either open, delivering early services or under construction.
