The Commonwealth and New South Wales Governments will join together to deliver better health services to the Raymond Terrace community following agreement to establish a combined GP Super Clinic and HealthOne facility.

Commonwealth Minister for Health and Ageing Nicola Roxon, NSW Health Minister Jillian Skinner, Federal Member for Paterson Bob Baldwin, Federal Member for Newcastle Sharon Grierson and State Member for Port Stephens, Craig Baumann, today welcomed the agreement as good news for Raymond Terrace and the Lower Hunter.

Minister Roxon said this facility will make it easier for local families to access a range of health services all under the one roof and close to home.

“The Raymond Terrace GP Super Clinic together with HealthOne will provide integrated multidisciplinary, team-based, patient-centred health services in a single location, bringing together GPs, nurses, visiting medical specialists, allied health professionals, community health services and other health care providers and services.

“At the end of the day, we all want to ensure the Raymond Terrace Community has access to quality health services and today’s agreement will deliver more doctors, more nurses, more specialists and allied health and a better range of health care services locally,” Minister Roxon said.

NSW Minister for Health Jillian Skinner said that by combining the NSW investment of $8 million with the Commonwealth’s $7 million contribution, the community will benefit from an even better local health facility.

“The co-location of the HealthOne and GP Super Clinic facilities is a collaborative arrangement supported by local doctors and the community because it will deliver the best results locally. The facility will also provide for the training and education of doctors and other health professionals,” Minister Skinner said.
Member for Newcastle Sharon Grierson said locals will benefit from the partnership between the Australian and NSW Governments that will deliver a range of services under the one roof including more doctors and nurses plus oral health services and much-needed renal dialysis chairs.

Member for Paterson Bob Baldwin said that the plan to include pathology collection services onsite is also good news for the community who will be able to access the health services they need without the hassle of travel.

The Member for Port Stephens, Craig Baumann, said the funding agreement was very welcome.

This has been a much anticipated facility for the local community and it’s positive that the project is now firmly on track with more health services on offer for the community.

Minister Roxon said the Department of Health and Ageing held a consultation in Raymond Terrace to discuss the community views on the establishment of the Raymond Terrace GP Super Clinic and it soon became clear that the community felt a joint proposal between the Commonwealth and NSW Governments should be considered, to gain the maximum benefit from both initiatives.

“While a joint Commonwealth-State project can be complex to deliver, the benefits from bringing together a wider range of services in one place make it worthwhile,” Minister Roxon said.

The Gillard Government is investing $650 million to build more than 60 GP Super Clinics and invest in more than 400 infrastructure programs in GP clinics around the country. 33 GP Super Clinics are either open, delivering early services or under construction.
