Patients in the Carindale area can see big changes at the Carindale Medical Clinic thanks to a $300,000 primary care infrastructure grant from the Gillard Government.
Minster for Health and Ageing Nicola Roxon today visited Carindale Medical Clinic to inspect the completed works and congratulate the Clinic on the upgrade.
Minister Roxon said the Gillard Government is making it easier for families to see a doctor closer to home and the redeveloped Carindale clinic and extension of its services is a great example of the work being done across Australia.
“This grant has delivered a significant upgrade to the local clinic, resulting in more space for doctors and better access to health services for people who live and work in the Carindale area,” Minister Roxon said.
“GPs are the people in the health system that Australians see most, that’s why our Government is doing all it can to ensure that patients get the services they need in their local community.
“The Federal Government grant allowed Dr Whitby and her colleagues at the Carindale Medical Clinic to expand the services they offer to the local community,” Minister Roxon said.
Carindale Medical Clinic Principal Dr Noela Whitby said the Government grant has contributed to the upgrade of the facility which now includes four new consulting rooms, two additional treatment bays, a dedicated nurses’ room and a seminar room.
“With the support from the Federal Government we have made the clinic far more accessible for the local community with two new female doctors on board and longer consulting hours.
“Following the unveiling of the new clinic in August, we have extended hours and are now open 7.30am to 7.00pm Mondays and Tuesdays, 9.00am to 1.00pm on Saturdays and Sunday, 10.00am to noon,” Dr Whitby said.
Primary care infrastructure grants are part of the Government’s $650 million investment to improve primary care infrastructure including over 60 GP Super Clinics around Australia and over 425 Primary Care Infrastructure Grants to upgrade and extend existing general practices, primary care and community health services, and Aboriginal Medical Services.
