7 October 2011The Broken Hill community will have better access to doctors and other health professionals with the signing of an agreement to establish the Broken Hill GP Super Clinic.
Minister for Health and Ageing Nicola Roxon and Senator for New South Wales Ursula Stephens today welcomed the signing of the $7 million agreement with the Outback Family Pty Ltd as a boost to health care in Broken Hill.
“This GP Super Clinic, which will be a hub and spoke model, will deliver better access to health services for locals at two sites in Broken Hill,” Minister Roxon said.
“The Government wants to make it easier for all Australians to see and contact a doctor and GP Super Clinics around the country are making this happen.
“GP Super Clinics are a key part of the Australian Government’s national health reforms, providing a stronger primary health system.
“They provide integrated multidisciplinary, team-based, patient-centered health services in a single location, bringing together GPs, nurses, visiting medical specialists, allied health professionals and other health care providers and services,” Minister Roxon said.
Senator for New South Wales Ursula Stephens said the Broken Hill GP Super Clinic is designed to improve access to quality health care in communities and are a significant investment in taking the pressure off our hospitals.
“It is expected that the Broken Hill GP Super Clinic will include general practice, nurses and allied health specialists, with a strong emphasis on chronic disease management and lifestyle modification programs,” Senator Stephens said.
Both clinic locations plan to bulk bill all Medicare services for health care card holders, children under 17 years, patients managed under a chronic disease program and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
GP Super Clinics are designed to improve access to quality health care in communities and are a significant investment in taking the pressure off our hospitals.
The Gillard Government is investing $650 million to build more than 60 GP Super Clinics and invest in more than 400 infrastructure programs in GP clinics around the country. 32 GP Super Clinics are either open, delivering early services or under construction.
