The opening of the Queanbeyan GP Super Clinic is paving the way for better access to GPs and allied health professionals for the local Queanbeyan community.

The Minister for Health and Ageing Nicola Roxon and Member for Eden Monaro Dr Mike Kelly have welcomed the opening of the new building in Antill Street, Queanbeyan.

“The move to the new facility is allowing refurbishment of the existing Crawford Street Medical Clinic that will also be a part of the new Queanbeyan GP Super Clinic,” Minister Roxon said.

Member for Eden Monaro Dr Mike Kelly said the Queanbeyan community will benefit from greater access to GPs, nurses and allied health professionals at the GP Super Clinic.

“New services available over the coming weeks will include audiology, diabetes education, asthma management, dietetics, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, exercise therapy, Aboriginal health, dementia and palliative care and co-located pharmacy and pathology services.” Dr Kelly said.

“Once the refurbishment of the old medical centre is complete we will be holding an official opening to celebrate this great community facility.

Minister Roxon said the new facility was part of the Gillard Government’s commitment to boost frontline GP and primary healthcare services to deliver tangible benefits to local communities.

The Gillard Government is making a significant investment in the GP Super Clinics program and has committed $528.2 million over six years from 2007-08 to build 64 GP Super Clinics around Australia.

This is on top of funding for approximately 425 Primary Care Infrastructure Grants to upgrade and extend existing general practices, primary care and community health services, and Aboriginal Medical Services.
