Ensuring the Successful Delivery of E-Health Records
The Australian Government has announced two important appointments to further guide the implementation of the nation’s personally controlled electronic health record (PCEHR) system.

The Gillard Government today announced two important appointments to further guide the implementation of the nation’s personally controlled electronic health record (PCEHR) system.
A consortium led by PricewaterhouseCoopers and also including McKinsey and Company, Ocean Informatics, Trilogy Information Solutions and the University of Queensland will be the Benefits and Evaluation Partner for the PCEHR system.
The Government has also recently appointed Ernst & Young to provide and independent quality assurance advice for the PCEHR program.
Minister for Health and Ageing Nicola Roxon said the two appointments will provide further expert advice to the Government to ensure the PCEHR system is delivered in a quality way that delivers clinical, financial and economic benefits.
“E-health records are part of the Gillard Government’s effort to modernise our health system,” Minister Roxon said.
“E-health records will help patients all over Australia more easily manage their health information, meaning that patients will no longer have to remember every immunisation, every medical test, every prescription as they move from doctor to doctor.
“Our e-health strategy is to bring together the best of public and private expertise to this major task.
“The Benefits and Evaluation Partner will work from the development to the implementation of the system, providing ongoing analysis of how the PCEHR system will add value to the quality of patient care.
”Research will include measuring the impact of the PCEHR on improving the health of Australians, determining the best ways of meeting the needs of consumers, evaluating emerging international evidence and assessing the adoption of records by consumers and clinicians.
“The External Delivery Assurance Advisor will play a critical role in delivering a successful program that ensures the design, implementation and outcomes are delivered in a high quality way.
“The engagement of these partners underpins the introduction of a strong and dependable e-health system that will deliver results for Australian patients.”
Other partners currently being selected for the PCEHR Program are the National Infrastructure Partner and National Change and Adoption Partner.
