Minister for Health and Ageing Nicola Roxon today announced funding for the allocation of new, flexible aged care places in Gulgong.
These places will help meet the needs of the local ageing population by providing high level residential care, transitional aged care, rehabilitation care and palliative care services as part of the NSW Government’s proposed Multi-Purpose Health Service.
Minister Roxon said that the Gillard Government will provide around $305,000 a year in recurrent funding to deliver this service for the Gulgong community.
“We look forward to working with the NSW Government to deliver these benefits for the Gulgong community,” Minister Roxon said.
“There is widespread support in the Gulgong community to establish a Multi-Purpose Service, so I know today’s announcement will be strongly welcomed by the local community.
“In particular, I acknowledge the efforts of the local Federal MP, Mark Coulton, in working to make this new service for the people of Gulgong a reality.”
The proposed Multi-Purpose Service will form part of the HealthOne facility being constructed on the old Gulgong Hospital site.
Minister Roxon said a Multi-Purpose Service was the best service model to meet Gulgong’s health care needs.
“A Multi-Purpose Service will allow health and aged care services to be delivered locally, to be accessible, responsive and cost efficient. The proposed MPS would provide a single point of contact for the community to access all health services,” Minister Roxon said.
