Albany Community Care Respite Centre is set to benefit from national health reform with the Gillard Government today announcing $1.1 million in funding for the centre.
Minister for Health and Ageing Nicola Roxon announced the $1.1 million in funding has been allocated to the centre for 2011-12 as a part of $351 million of Commonwealth funding, only available to Western Australia after the state committed to national health reform in February this year.
“The benefits for WA from today’s announcement are widespread. Our absolute priority for national health reform is to give hospitals the resources they need for more beds and better care for patients,” Ms Roxon said.
“Our investment in the Albany Community Care Respite Centre will fund up to 1,460 bed-days a year.
“The funds will support the centre in providing short-term overnight care and accommodation to eligible clients in the Albany area.
“The centre is also expected to help divert emergency presentations from Albany Hospital by providing short-term respite care in the community and free up hospital beds for both elective surgery patients and emergency presentations requiring hospital admission.”
National health reform is also benefiting Albany through improved integration of the continuum-of-care at Albany Regional Hospital. The Gillard Government is providing $23.5 million in national health reform funding to Albany and Bunbury Hospitals to establish 15 rehabilitation bed equivalents, a day therapy unit and establishing two regional primary stroke centres.
More than $300 million of national health reform projects were announced by Australian Government Minister for Health and Ageing Nicola Roxon and West Australian Deputy Premier and Minister for Health Kim Hames on Wednesday that will help to improve access to elective surgery, emergency and sub-acute care across WA.
Future announcements will be made on further Commonwealth-funded health and hospital projects for WA—as national health reforms continue to improve and increase the nation’s health services.
