Senator for New South Wales
4 March 2011Residents and health professionals from the Lower Hunter are invited to share ideas on Monday evening about the best options for their local GP Super Clinic.
The GP Super Clinics program is at the heart of the Gillard Government’s efforts to make it easier for Australians to see a doctor when they need to and with 30 Super Clinics around the country either open, providing early services or under construction, this is already happening.
Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon, said that the consultation is designed to ensure the Raymond Terrace GP Super Clinic in the Lower Hunter will meet local needs.
“We want to make sure the community is involved in identifying local health needs and service priorities for their GP Super Clinic,” Minister Roxon said.
“These information and consultation sessions also offer residents a great opportunity to ask general information about the GP Super Clinics program and funding processes.”
Senator for New South Wales, Michael Forshaw, said that it was great to see key health investments being made in the Lower Hunter area and encouraged the local community to attend the consultation and share their ideas about local health needs.
“There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to GP Super Clinics so it’s really important that the local community get involved and be a part of the planning for the Raymond Terrace GP Super Clinic,” Senator Forshaw said.
The Gillard Government will provide up to $7 million to establish the Lower Hunter GP Super Clinic, as part of the funding for 28 additional GP Super Clinics provided in the 2010-11 Budget.
A register of interested parties has been established to help people to receive further information as it becomes available. Requests to be included on the register should be emailed to gpsuperclinics@health.gov.au. Further information is also available at: www.health.gov.au/gpsuperclinics.
The Lower Hunter GP Super Clinic Consultation will be held at Raymond Terrace Bowling Club, 2 Jacaranda Avenue, Raymond Terrace on Monday 7 March from 6.30pm – 8.30pm.
