4 February 2011Residents and health professionals on the Sunshine Coast are invited to share ideas tonight about the best options for their local GP Super Clinic.
GP Super Clinics are playing a key role in the Gillard Government’s efforts to make it easier for Australians to see and contact a doctor when they need to.
The Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon, said that the consultation is designed to ensure the Sunshine Coast GP Super Clinic will meet local needs.
“There is no ‘one size fits all’ for GP Super Clinics, so we are encouraging local residents to team up with health professionals and share ideas about the best options for their local GP Super Clinic.”
“The Sunshine Coast is a growing community with diverse health needs and a GP Super Clinic will help take pressure off the local hospital. That’s why the Gillard Government is building this GP Super Clinic.
“We want to make sure the community has an opportunity to be involved in identifying local health needs and service priorities for the GP Super Clinic.”
Queensland Senator Claire Moore said that it is very important that we work closely with the local community to make sure this GP Super Clinic offers the right services for the people of the Sunshine Coast.
“These information and consultation sessions also offer communities a great opportunity to ask for general information about the GP Super Clinics program and funding processes,” Senator Moore said.
The Gillard Government will provide up to $15 million to establish the Sunshine Coast GP Super Clinic as part of the funding for 28 additional GP Super Clinics provided in the 2010-11 Budget.
