Minister For Health And Ageing

Senator Louise Pratt
Senator For Western Australia

31 January 2011

Local residents and health professionals from the West Pilbara are invited to share ideas tonight about the best options for the GP Super Clinic in Karratha.

GP Super Clinics are playing a key role in the Gillard Government’s efforts to make it easier for Australians to see and contact a doctor when they need to.

The Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon, said that the consultation is designed to ensure the West Pilbara GP Super Clinic will meet local needs.

“The West Pilbara is a fast growing community, and will continue to grow with the expansion of mining activity in the region. That’s why the Gillard Government is building this GP Super Clinic,” Ms Roxon said.

“It’s very important that we work closely with the local community to make sure this GP Super Clinic offers the right services for the people of the West Pilbara.”

West Australian Senator Louise Pratt said it was important that the community has an opportunity to be involved in identifying local health needs and service priorities for the GP Super Clinic.

“The consultations give the residents and health professionals of the West Pilbara the opportunity to share ideas about the best options for a GP Super Clinic in their community,” Senator Pratt said.

The information and consultation sessions outline general details of the GP Super Clinics program and explain the funding processes.

The Gillard Government will provide up to $7 million to establish the Karratha GP Super Clinic as part of the funding for 28 additional GP Super Clinics provided in the 2010-11 Budget.
